CANDIDATE · SUNOL GLEN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD-A Sunol parent running for our school board. One school. One big family of students and teachers & a short list of things that actually need fixing.
WHY I'M RUNNING
We moved to Sunol in 2022, and our daughters attended Sunol Glen. But my connection to education started long before we arrived here.
I began my career as a kindergarten teacher and spent five years teaching students from elementary through high school.I later earned a Master’s in Information Technology and moved into cybersecurity and governance, where my work is about reading the fine print, asking what things cost, and making sure what we promise actually gets done.
I believe kids come to school to learn, grow, and prepare for the life ahead. The school board’s job is to help create the conditions for every child to do their best with a focus on education, opportunity, safety, and responsible use of our resources.
Sunol Glen is more than a school. It is part of what makes Sunol, Sunol: a school, a railway station, a small downtown, and the hills around us. The school is at the heart of our community, and keeping it strong matters to the future of Sunol.
WHAT I'D WORK ON
1. Stop cutting the things that make families choose Sunol Glen School
In March the board had to vote on cutting four positions. Preschool and childcare were saved only because staff spoke up. The art teacher went to part-time; the health aide and noon duty supervisor were left on the list. These are exactly the programs families point to when they choose this school over a bigger one and enrollment is what keeps the doors open. Cutting them to save money costs us more.
2. Measure K needs a report card, starting now
Measure J’s re-roofing and kitchen work are under construction, but the district has since found more structural problems in the 1925 main building which is why a second bond, Measure K ($6.1 million), is on this same ballot. I support it; our kids need a safe, modern building. But this time, reporting on where the money goes should start on day one: a public update every quarter, not a slide in a board packet four years later.
3. Protect a school that's already working
Sunol Glen scores in the top 10% of California schools with 18 students per teacher. That isn’t luck; it’s small classes and teachers who know every kid. Budget pressure is real, but it can’t be allowed to quietly erode the thing families moved here for. Keeping good teachers is the board’s most important job.
4. Getting to school safely
Traffic is the number one complaint in Sunol, and Main Street at drop-off is part of it. With the Route 84 bridge work rerouting drivers through town, this gets worse before it gets better. The board can’t fix county roads, but it can be the loud, persistent voice asking the county and Caltrans for the crossing, signage and speed enforcement our kids need.
